Mount Rushmore National Memorial<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n PRESIDENTS\u2019 DAY<\/b><\/p>\n Dr. Lewis Gregory<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Governments and leaders are God\u2019s provision to provide structure and order among us according to the Holy Bible, in Romans 13:1. \u201cLet everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.\u201d<\/p>\n Presidents\u2019 Day is a national holiday in the United States of America. What is the purpose of this national holiday? Presidents\u2019\u00a0Day was originally\u00a0marked to commemorate the birthdays of the first president, George Washington, and\u00a0the 16th president, Abraham Lincoln.\u00a0Today Presidents’ Day\u00a0includes all of our Presidents.<\/p>\n Presidents\u2019 Day affords the citizens of the US\u00a0an opportunity to pay tribute to each of the\u00a0presidents who have served this great country. The attitude\u00a0we should have toward our\u00a0Presidents should be\u00a0much like that described in the traditional marriage vows, \u201cfor better or for worse.\u201d Some of our Presidents have been better, and unfortunately some have been worse. But\u00a0it could be worse, much worse!<\/p>\n Consider the alternative. Just take a\u00a0brief look at the history of the nations of the world, their leaders and the condition of each country compared to that of the United States. Or simply examine\u00a0the world conditions today.\u00a0It should become evident\u00a0that we would be in a\u00a0terrible situation in the US\u00a0were it not for the governmental structure provided by the Constitution of the United States. Our Constitution\u00a0grants us three branches of government: the Executive Branch with the President to preside over the affairs of our country, the Legislative Branch\u00a0composed of Senators and Representatives to establish the laws necessary to govern our country, and the Judicial Branch with Supreme Court Justices to interpret and uphold the law in keeping with the US Constitution.<\/p>\n However, history also\u00a0shows us that countries can, and do change, often for the worse. God has provided a solution. He tells us the way to preserve and improve our liberty is not by murmuring and complaining, but by praying and being thankful. \u201cI exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior\u201d (1 Timothy 2:1-3).<\/p>\n So, on this Presidents\u2019 Day, take a moment to\u00a0thank\u00a0the Good Lord for the type of government that we have in the USA, which\u00a0affords us\u00a0freedom\u00a0and prosperity greater than\u00a0any other country. And then\u00a0pray for our President and our government leaders that they would function as true public servants. Pray that they would adhere to the laws of the land. Pray that they would oversee our country in a fair and responsible manner, which is in the best interest of the American people. 2\/18\/2019<\/p>\n
