WHEN you experience LEAN TIMES consider this:
“But she said, ‘I swear by the LORD your God that I don’t have a single piece of bread in the house. And I have only a handful of flour left in the jar and a little cooking oil in the bottom of the jug. I was just gathering a few sticks to cook this last meal, and then my son and I will die.’” 1 Kings 17:12
On one occasion we got down to our last meal. My wife announced, “this is all the food we have and no money to buy more.” I paused a moment to hear our Lord and then replied, “well praise the Lord! We can only eat one meal at a time. So we have all we need for now.” Then we prayed and thanked our Lord for His supply of all our needs.
When the next meal time came some friends who knew nothing of our situation invited us out to eat as their guests. Wow, what a feast we enjoyed at that nice restaurant! Before the next meal someone brought us several bags of groceries. And the following day some other friends brought us a lot of fresh vegetables from their garden. All of this without having told anyone about our financial condition.
Of course we did talk to our Heavenly Father in secret, who graciously rewarded us openly. He sent all those people to provide for our needs. He did this just as He promised when He gave us Philippians 4:19. “But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
“The Lord will provide” is more than a religious cliche. We are living proof. We have been living by faith for the past 49 years without raising support or making our needs known. We have never missed a meal and all of our bills have been paid on time. We have traveled millions of miles and ministered to millions of people all around the world—all by the GRACE OF GOD!
We have learned by experience that 1 Thessalonians 5:24 is very true. “Faithful is He that calls you, who also will do it.” You can trust God with your life. He is faithful, and He will take care of you! He has done so in this ministry, in the most amazing ways, through some of the most wonderful people—to God be the glory! Hallelujah!
