YES YOU! As a Christian you are now righteous in Christ! It’s a grace thing. 

In 1983 on a mission trip in Mexico I preached a series on “Our Righteousness in Christ.” At the end I challenged the people to take turns standing and declaring “I am the righteousness of God in Christ!”

Only one 12 year old boy had the boldness to do so. But once he did the Spirit of God moved mightily in our midst, and others joined him. As they did, joy unspeakable and glory filled their souls! The shackles of guilt and condemnation had been removed. Now they could stand blamelessly before their Lord, cleansed of all unrighteousness! Hallelujah!!!

Likewise, upon receiving Christ, you became a new creature in Christ. You were made righteous through your union with Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21). As a result, you have been joined to the Lord in an inseparable bond—a divine union in which the 2 of you have been made one. Now you are as He is, in this world! (1 John 4:17) 

Since you have been joined to the Righteous One, you have become as He is—righteous. This is not by works of righteousness which you have done, but solely by the work of the Righteous One—Jesus Christ. 

The life of Christ has now become your life. Therefore, everything Christ is you have now become in Him. So, His righteousness is now your righteousness (1 Corinthians 1:30). You are “the righteousness of God in Christ”. It is who you are by virtue of your union with Christ!

Christians today need a righteousness consciousness to replace their sin consciousness. Once Christians awake to righteousness, sin will become a non-issue (1 Corinthians 15:34). Then the righteousness of Christ will prevail in us! And we will walk in the path of righteousness for His name’s sake. Thank You Lord!
