THE NEED FOR SPIRITUAL AWAKENING

 Q.  “It appears that the way things are going in our country we are on a collision course. The solutions our society offers are just empty promises and wishful thinking. Furthermore, the Christians are so shallow. I feel like I am one of the few truly committed to the Lord. HELP!”
 A.  Hello Chris, Your comments about the shallowness of most Christians, the emptiness of society, and the utter absurdity of the collision course our country is on, are very relevant. These are drastic times that call for drastic measures.

The issues you have raised present quite a challenge, but this is certainly no match for our all-sufficient Lord. I have seen Him take the most selfish of people and transform them into true servants of our Lord. Such a transformation causes people to enter into a new quality of life. It is this dimension of living that can truly be called “the abundant life or the life in the Spirit.”

I’m not referring to some new religious ritual or pious verbiage. No, what I’m talking about is reality! True spiritual reality is the genuine manifestation of the life of the Lord Jesus Christ being expressed through your personal character and conduct.  It is what the Apostle Paul called a “demonstration of the Spirit and power.” It is simply the Lord Jesus Christ being Himself through ordinary humans. It is His life being manifested through His people in every area of their daily activities. And that is true living!

But as you have observed, all too many Christians have a pseudo Christianity. It is what the Bible calls a “form of godliness.” Such Christians, in their attempt to imitate Christ, are functioning without the life and power of God—a poor replica of the real thing. Tragically, even with all their sincere efforts, they are still deceived. And the worst part is, they don’t even know it!

Revelation 3:15-16 refers to this as “lukewarm Christians”. “I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.” ESV

It should be obvious that lukewarm Christians are nauseating to our Lord. Yuk! But that is part of what you are expressing in your comments, Chris. Since you are now one with Christ and you are allowing Christ to live his life through you, He is causing you to experience the same feelings that He has over the tragic plight of our world today.

Perhaps you have the same sentiments as Chris. It is because of this pseudo contentment, in which many think they have need of nothing, that a wake-up call from the Lord is needed. The true church of our Lord Jesus Christ must awake from its slumber and allow Christ to shine forth. Those of you who have seen the light need to come out from under your bushel baskets and let your lights shine! Now is the time for God’s people to awaken and work together!

Continuous revival is yours for the taking. But you must wake up . . . and take it!
